What to bring to hospital for surgery

Bring your insurance and/or Medicare card. |
The telephone numbers of relatives or designated help person. |

Preparing your home for after surgery
Arrange for help now. You will need someone who can drive you to your follow-up appointments and help with running errands. |
Make arrangements for someone to care of your pets and mail. |
Reorganize your home. Remove loose scattered rugs and extension cords, and clutter that may be a hazard. |
Set up a recovery station with a cordless phone, medications and everyday essentials. |
Have convenience foods ready, or make and freeze casseroles that can be later warmed up. |
Secure handrails along your staircase. |
A temporary living space on the same floor, because walking up or down stairs will be more difficult during early recovery. |
It may be helpful to have the following items on hand as well:
A stable shower bench or chair for bathing. |
A toilet seat riser with arms, if you have a low toilet. |
Safety bars or a secure handrail in your shower or bath.
