Ceramic-on-Ceramic Hip
Replacement...A New Alternative for Younger, More Active
Patients!
The FDA has recently approved Stryker Corporation's new
ceramic-on-ceramic hip replacement, the Trident Ceramic
Acetabular Insert. Prior to this approval, technologies used
for total hip replacement included conventional polyethlene-on-metal
and metal-on-metal articulations. Laboratory testing has
demonstrated significantly lower wear of these
ceramic-on-ceramic bearings versus conventional hip
replacement systems.
This ceramic-on-ceramic system has been developed for the
younger, more active patient populations who have demonstrated
higher wear rates with conventional implants. The Trident
Ceramic Acetabular System is expected to provide a significant
advancement for improving the long-term performance of
artificial hip joints. Dr. LaButti will be among the first in
Tulsa to offer this new exciting implant to his patients!
